Gender Equality And Sustainable Development
In a society, people have the right to lead their life accordingly without any discrimination . When this state can be achieved where all can individually live freely regardless of whatever religion, class ,color and gender he or she belongs, it can be defined as equality.
Gender equality and sustainable development go hand in hand for several reasons , like sustaining livelihood of families and achieving a high growth rate in the economy of the country. Every individual of a society wants equal rights and opportunity, but there is a huge range of discrimination. This discrimination can be because of cultural differences, geographical differences, social status and gender. The most prevalent discrimination is gender inequality . It's a global issue. Even we can see in developed countries and some organizations are gender bias. It can occur in various forms , including unequal pay for equal work , job discrimination, sexual harassment, unequal access to education , healthcare and other opportunities.
One of the most common forms of gender discrimination is the gender pay gap. Women , on average , earn less than men for the same job. The gap is not just limited to low-paying jobs; even in high paying industries such as technology and finance , women are often paid less than men. This discrimination not only affects individual women but also has a wider impact on their families , limiting their economic growth and development. Besides this women in some societies are denied access to education , which is a fundamental human right . Lack of education limits women's opportunities and they become dependent on their male partners. This dependence makes it difficult for women to challenge discrimination and advocate for their rights .In addition, women are often denied access to quality healthcare, including reproductive health services, because of cultural and social beliefs that prioritize men's needs over women's.Women are also more likely to be victim of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault. Sometimes this violence goes unreported due to the stigma attached and fear of losing social respect. In some cases the victim is convicted. Child marriages and child labours are also some obstacles for women development.
Gender equality is the fifth of the seventeen sustainable development goals. It works for ending all forms of discrimination ,violence and any harmful practices against women and girls in the public and private places, women empowerment in every sector. Women empowerment increases women's participation in education , extends equal salary, rises literacy rate among women. In the past, men were the main active earners of the household. Now time has changed .Women are also participating in earning . It has became the best technique of putting power into women's hand to have respect in the society. Even it will help in increasing economical growth as well as move the country forward.Women are making examples everywhere. That should be highlighted to change the scenario.
Gender equality and sustainable development goals are inseparably linked. Both are dependent on each other. It is therefore crucial that puts up with on to stimulate gender equality and sustainable development are espoused and prioritized in all aspects of development.
